2007 National Corvette Homecoming
Bowling Green Kentucky
August 10-12.

Friday, August 10, 2007

It was Friday late afternoon and the early birds
were there to get a good spot in show area
at the host hotel, the Baymont.  As you can
see, there were solid axles present.  A little
later, the Jackie Fox band kicked off the
party.

And just about when you thought it was safe, who drives up?
CEO of the Homecoming,
Joe Pruitt, and his pretty wife, Vera.

And the accolades and perks start rolling
in for Joe.  Here you see him receiving his
personalized reserved parking space from
Nicole Hehnen, the General Manager
of the Bowling Green Baymont Hotel.

And here's the rockin' band that
entertained the crowd of plastic
fanatics.  They played right into
the evening.

Strolling through the Vendors Section,
it was obvious that there were solid
axle parts.

This is Bob Gary with his Riverside
Red '55.  He has owned this car since
1968.

This is Roger Nash with his '53.  He was
getting prepared for the Sans Pareil
judging.  For more info on Sans
Pareil (without equal) go to
www.nationalcorvettehomecoming.com

There was classroom instruction.  Kicking off
the seminars was Bob Stevens, Editor
Emeritus, Corvette Enthusiast.  I was able
to get his lovely wife Dahlia to pose with
Bob right before the session started.
As you can see, the topic was the Evolution
of the Corvette.  Bob used personal
experience and great slides to present
the educational and entertaining
material.

Awaiting the show judges was Bob
Patrick with his '54.  Bob picked up
this beauty at Carlisle last year, and he
plans to take it to Bloomington next year.
Sounds like a plan to me.

The celebrity judges are wearing the green
shirts, the Sans Pariel judges have black shirts,
Joe Pruitt has the blue shirt, and Hall
Of Fame member Gordon Killebrew sports
the red shirt.

This Turqoise '60 made it's way from Canada.

This is Bruce Mutter with his red '61.  It was not tailored.  In fact, Bruce does not own a trailer.

This is Ron Brown's Silver Blue
Metallic '58.

Here you see Vehicle Assembly Engineering
Manager Tom Hill showing the '08
he brought.  He went over the new features,
here you see him explaining some points
to interested folks.

Then at 1:30, Saturday, August 11, Joe Pruitt
made a momentous announcement.  The
National Corvette Homecoming is joining forces with the Red Cross to host Vette-Tastic.
300 Corvette Statues, similar to the Chicago
event with the cow statues, will be presented,
displayed, then auctioned as a fund raiser.  On
hand for the announcement was Red Cross
officials (seen on the right), and Bowling
Green Mayor Elaine Walker.

Seated is Wil Cooksey, Corvette Assembly
Plant Manager.  Wil had a very informative
Q & A session.  He is being introduced by Rick Montgomery of the National Corvette
Homecoming staff.

And how do you do Bowling Green without
a trip to the National Corvette Museum?
Here you see the model of the British
Warship, a Corvette, assembled by Frank
Spikes, and presented to the NCM in
2004 by the Solid Axle Corvette Club
(That's us.)

Here's some solid axles on display.
If you haven't been to the National
Corvette Museum, you should.

So if you haven't been to the National Corvette Homecoming, you might
want to re-arrange your priorities.  But rumor has it that the 2010 SACC
Convention might dove-tail with the NCH.  Sounds like a long way away,
but it's not.  All the details have to be worked out.  But there's plenty of time to make it a great event.
So that's a pictorial run-down of this year's National Corvette Homecoming.  I attended
with SACC president Max Brockhouse and we had a great time.  Besides the Homecoming, you
can attend the Museum, and you can take a tour of the Corvette Assembly Plant.  Hard to top.
