Mike Yager, Chief Cheerleader of Mid-America Motorworks
Your humble website editor was present at the first autocross held by Mid-America Motorworks at the Spring Swapfest. It went very smoothly, in fact you would never know that this was the first autocross that they have ever hosted. Here are some of my pictures of the swap meet and the autocross....
Perrie
was in charge of the For Sale area, and here you can see her helping
this interested possible buyer check out this primo '99.
Show
Me Vettes had a swap meet space. As you can see, they
are a friendly group.
Here's
part of the line-up to participate in
the autocross.
Here
are two of the officials, (L to R) Cheryl Habing and Nancy Bushur.
Here's
what the starting line looked like. Some of the drivers got antsy, they
had to have them back up to be even with the cones.
Here's
an action shot at one of the corners.
Not
every entry was fiberglass. In fact, not every entry was a sports
car. Kenny Yager observed that it would take a long
time for this car's tires to cool down.
On
the left you see Nancy Bushur working on the
standings board, and on
the right you see Cheryl
timing an entry at the
finish line. They had
two officials doing the timing,
and they would take the lowest
of the two times obtained.
Here
are some of the fans in the stands.
As you can see I asked Laurie Yager to
help me get a good photo, but Mike was
way too busy goofing around.
Here's
one half of the winners. Megan Sweeney
won in the women's class and Kevin Sweeney
won in the modified class. Let me tell you,
their car was one hot chargin' C4.
But
that's not all! After the competition it
was civilians riding the course for a
charity contribution. Here you see
Brian Walker, formerly of Southampton,
England, now living in Virginia, Illinois,
getting ready to autocross. He said it
was a good ride in a good C3. Oh, did
I mention that he is my son-in-law?
And
who said there were no solid axle
bow-ties there?
Well, that's what I saw at the Spring Swap Meet and
Autocross. For you historians, the first swap meet
at Mid-America was spring, 2004. I predict that the autocross will do
nothing but get bigger and bigger
as time goes by. It looked to me like all the participants had a good
time, and for that matter, all the fans
had a good time, too. The Mid-America folks are great hosts. If you
haven't been to one of their swap
meets, you might want to think about re-arranging your priorities. The
next Swapfest and Autocross will
be on October 13, 2007.
See ya at the next outing..
