2006 Route 66 Fest Regional Meet
Central Great Rivers Chapter
Great Lakes Chapter
September 22-23, 2006
The first ever Regional meet went as scheduled, but we didn't
have total cooperation from Mother Nature.
Everyone attending
got checked in and received all
their material from this able registration crew consisting
of Gerri Hollada and Kerri Sewell. The State House Inn
Hotel provided everything they said they would, including
the registration table.
Then
later on entertainment was provided
by the Fabulous MelloTones, Doc Hollada
and Mark Sewell.
Bright
and early next morning it was a full breakfast
in the convenient dining facility right there
at the hotel. Note these satisfied diners.
Then
we stepped outside for a quick
Regional Meeting conducted by SACC
President Max Brockhouse.
The original plan was to go on a 19 mile
road trip, but the weather was threatening,
so the back-up plan was put in place. We
traveled six blocks to the Abraham Lincoln
Presidential Museum.
And
who were there to greet us? The Lincoln
family. They kindly posed for pictures.
Then
everyone was free to enjoy Rt 66 Fest in
Downtown Springfield, Illinois. As you can see
the downtown streets were blocked off. There
were over 500 classic cars registered, including
the red C-5 you see in the picture.
In summary, the weather could have been a lot better, but those
who attended had a really good time.
Overnight security was provided, and my security man said it was calm and serene
in the parking area
for both nights in their entirety, but it is always better to be safe than
sorry. By the way, the Capitol
Building picture at the top of this page was taken right from the front of the
hotel.
