2011 Corvette Funfest
Mid America Motorworks
Effingham, Illinois
September 16-18, 2011
I
may never get invited back after posting this candid picture, but here you see
Mid America chief Mike Yager (on the right) sampling some of Pritchard
distillery's products.
Pritchard Distillery is at the top of the heap in their field, and their competition results prove it.
Let's just say that I purchased and brought something home from that table.
Mike
conducts the opening ceremonies flanked by his wife Laurie and his sons Michael
and Blake.
Mid
America's Michael Cole sang the National Anthem.
It's
a big place. SACC had club parking and a tent, but finding it wasn't
easy. Dennis and Jane Fontana used their GPS system as a guide and found
it.
Also
finding our parking area was Jerry and Kay Taylor from Springfield, Illinois.
Right
off the bat I spotted this red '62 from the Corvette Club of Illinois in
Champaign.
A
new addition to the show is this install building. It was tires, wheels,
and exhaust systems big time.
It
was 'hands on', well sort of, for these kids looking at Cerv-1.
Max
Brockhouse and I are such VIP's that we were chauffeured around in this
limousine. Not!
Here's
an early solid axle Chevrolet. This is a 1915 Chevrolet Roadster Royal
Mail.
Gary
Dempsey from Wisconsin brought his '61. He calls the color Crantastic Red
Metallic. Restoration was completed just two months ago.
I
really liked this black '62 from Ohio.
There
were lots of reasons to take this picture. (L to R) owner Dan Tackett from
Mississippi, Jay Heath, editor of Corvette Magazine, and Steve Temple, West
Coast editor of Corvette Magazine.
What...doesn't
look stock to you? 54 front with a cove? Dan only works on C-1's,
and he has lots of left over pieces and parts at his shop. This car has
parts from every year from 1953 to 1962.
Corvette
engineer Tom Hill was up from Bowling Green to show the features of the
Centennial Corvette.
There were so many gawkers that I couldn't get any closer.
Central
Great Rivers Chapter holds their annual meeting at Funfest, and our special
visitor was Andy Bolig, editor of Auto Enthusiast Magazine. He is seated,
on the left.
Do
you like live music? Do you like concerts? Do you like the
Eagles? The show that evening was "An Evening at Hotel
California". Here you see Eagles lead guitarist Don Felder playing a
Fender Stratocaster and rockin' the house down. The gentleman in the mosh
pit on the left sporting the white hat is MAM's Mike Yager.
Mike, you put on a good show.
There was lots more going on at Funfest 2011. Mike Yager and his crew go way beyond the call of duty to put on a truly wonderful Corvette weekend. To learn about next year's Funfest, go to www.mamotorworks.com
