2017 SACC National Convention
October 23, 24, 25 and 26, 2017
Westgate River Ranch, Florida
Event Agenda
We expect most of you are,
at least, vaguely familiar with Florida. And,
we’re relatively certain that when you do think of Florida, you dream of
beautiful blue water, sandy white beaches, spectacular winter weather, Disney
World, Universal Studios, Sea World, NASCAR and, of course, an occasional
Hurricane.
However, there is a part of
Florida that most visitors to the state are unfamiliar with and just never see.
That being South Central Florida – home of vast cattle ranches and huge
citrus orchards. This area of
Florida takes you back to the time when our cars were new.
When the solid axle cars first roamed the Florida Highways, there were no
Interstates and Orlando was a sleepy little winter resort town; and, Mr Disney
had not even thought about buying up every available inch of Orange County
Florida Real Estate.
The
Westgate River Ranch Resort is located on Florida State Route 60 roughly 25
miles East of Lake Wales. Other than the food available at the resort, the
closest restaurants are in Lake Wales. And,
while the Resort General Store carries some groceries, the closest full service
grocery stores are the Super Walmart, Publix or Winn Dixie located in Lake
Wales. Should you decide to purchase
some late-night snacks/beverages to bring with you, there is a coffee maker,
refrigerator and microwave in each resort room.
The closest gas station is 15 miles from the Resort.
For convenience, people arriving at the resort from the West should fill
their gas tanks in Lake Wales – those arriving from the East should fill up at
the Travel Center in Yee Haw Junction.
For those wanting to go
“shopping” there is a Super Walmart and a Bealls Outlet in Lake Wales but
more and varied shopping opportunities are Winter Haven (40 miles Northwest) and
the VF outlet mall in Vero Beach (50 Miles East) – it is a comfortable
45-minute drive to either.
Once
you’ve had a chance to look the convention agenda over, we think you’ll
agree that we have done our best to keep you busy.
However, this is a Dude Ranch and there are various activities and
amenities available which could be of interest to you – should you get your
fill of Corvette “stuff” and be looking for something else to occupy your
time. The Ranch is adjacent to the
Florida Kicco Wildlife Management area – a good place for a walk and you may
see wild hogs or alligators as well as all the Florida Water fowl.
The Resort operates a Trap and Skeet Range, has airboat rides on Lake
Kissimmee, Swamp Buggy Rides, a catch and release pond, 9 hole Golf Course,
Archery, horseback riding, a mechanical bull, 300 foot Zip Line and Miniature
golf. For those of you staying over
an extra day for Friday evening, they hold an actual rodeo complete with barrel
racing and bull riding. On Friday
and Saturday nights the Resort Saloon is open with adult beverages, line
dancing, live music, and did I mention, adult beverages.
By the way, should you be
wondering what to pack for the Florida weather in October.
You can reasonably expect night time low temperatures of the high 60s to
low 70s and high daytime temperatures of about 85 degrees – really nice top
down cruising weather. October
starts the Florida dry season so, on the average, we get about 2 inches of rain
the entire month.
