FUNFEST 2007
EFFINGHAM, ILLINOIS
Wow, Funfest 2007 was really great. Your humble and tireless website editor traveled to Effingham to take in this year's Funfest. Of course it was a chore, but I try to go to great lengths to keep the SACC members up to date.
We
attended the Friday
evening art reception at Mike
Yager's pool area. The
theme of this year's Funfest was
Corvette Summer, and what
better way to signify that than
to have the actual car used in the
movie of the same name.
Here you see the car up on the
hill, with a view towards the
bow-tie shaped pool, where
the art reception took place.
This
is automotive artist David Chapple and his wife Noonie.
David is in the top tier of automotive artists in the United
States.
Keith
Martin was on hand to announce
the introduction of a new publication,
Corvette Market. There was a
champagne toast to celebrate.
Attending
the art reception was George
Barris, king of the Hollywood customizers.
Ghost Busters, Batmobile,
Corvette Summer, get the idea?
The action continued on Saturday, September 22.
On
hand bright and early was
Mid America Motorworks CEO
Mike Yager.
SACC
loyal members Jeff and Ginnie
Van Hooser were there with their copper
'56. It is featured in a prestigious calendar.
Bringing
several cars to the
For Sale Corral was Jim
Semanski, owner of
JS Corvettes in Carbondale,
Illinois. Jim is a SACC member, and also a
Central Great Rivers Chapter
member. He had a primo
spot in the corral. This big
block shark was nice.
This
'58 was the only solid axle in the For Sale Corral.
The Regal Turquoise paint seemed fresh and wouldn't
this car look good in my driveway.
They
moved the museum outside to an
"Under the big top" set-up. Here you see
the flagship car in the front of the museum.
As
I mentioned, George Barris
was on hand this weekend to
spice up the festivities. Here
you see them taping a segment
for the Speed Channel. (L to R)
Speed Channel's Ray Iddings,
Mike Yager, and George
Barris.
But
not all the visitors were human. Meet
Greta Garbo, ordering Dianna Williams to
carry her around to do her sight-seeing.
There
was a celebrity autograph session.
In
attendance was the CEO of the National
Corvette Homecoming, Joe Pruitt, with his pretty wife Vera. The Homecoming
is a great annual
event in Bowling Green, Kentucky,
The
honored cars were the '57's, 67's, etc.
Here are some of the '57's in attendance.

SACC and CGR-Chapter member Dennis Fontana was one of the
celebrity choice winners.
He was parking his C-1 on the "Berm" when I shot this picture.
Also
winning was this white/red 59 owned by
Doug Musgrave of Illinois. He has owned the
car for 25 years, plans to do a total restoration
in the near future.
Another
winner was Connie Krueger. Her
Wisconsin '62 is certainly a winner. You can
see her husband Dick doing the wiping and
polishing. We can probably guess who was
in charge of this endeavor.
And
then in the evening the
show was by Three Dog Night.
You heard right, Three Dog
Night. They played to
50,000+ happy Corvette
enthusiasts, and what a show!
So that's most of the photos I took at this year's
Funfest. There was lots and lots more going on, I couldn't be
everyplace. I had a great time, I think anyone in attendance had a great
time, also. Thanks to Mike Yager, Laurie
Yager, all the Mid America Motorworks crew for a job well done!!
