The
Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL
is a big place. Here you get the idea of the
size; here's John Rettick, Certification Operations
Director at the Certification field. He relates
that he currently drives a '63.
Here
are just a few of the many, many cars
awaiting there fate at the auction. A black
C-1 sits between two Stingrays.
I
briefly caught up with Mike Yager, CEO
of MidAmerica Motorworks at their
"Merchandising Extravaganza" in the
Mega Center. They had a great display,
my purchase was right there on hand, no
bother with shipping.
On hand also
at the Mega Center was Carlisle's Lance
Miller. Lance is always friendly, and we had a short
chit-chat about our tour of his garage at last year's
convention.
It is a
long story, but this year's auction was
televised by Discovery's HD Theater. They
used half of the Mega Center, our booth
was moved out to the air conditioned tent.
Here you see SACC Pres Max Brockhouse
signing up a new member. Mary Rae
Brockhouse is handling merchandise
duties.
And I
totally approved of this booth. Dr. Jack
Sharratt, Chiropractor from Batavia, IL (nearby)
had a spinal health evaluation suite.
Kim Wirtz and Mallory Kapitanoff were
performing the spinal screenings.
Outside
the Mega Center, the big boys had their
18-wheelers to bring their virtual store. Here you
see Meguiars' set-up. I asked if Barry Meguiar
was present, and was told, no. Guess I didn't
get on the Speed Channel this year.
Just to
the North of Meguiars was the For Sale
area. Here you see a nice '56 looking for a
new owner.
This
red/white '61 was also in the For Sale
category. Owner Joe Trgovich has babied this car since 1983. It has
the original motor,
original carbs, etc. Asking price was 55K.
Maybe
you yearn to go racing. If that's the case, you
were in luck.
The owner had this car for 18 years.
There
were a couple of distantly related
C-1's in the shade. This red/white '59
and this maroon '62 were offered
to the perusing public.
And
not accidently, I ran into my favorite
artist, David Chapple, who you see there
painting. His business manager is his wife Noonie, who is sitting on the
custom bench.
While
manning the SACC booth, who stopped
by than none other than the emissaries from
the National Corvette Homecoming held
every summer in Bowling Green, KY.
Here you see (L to R) Debbie and Steve Crain,
Mike Bianco, and Vera and Joe Pruitt.
Joe is the show CEO. Possibly everyone
in Bowling Green knows Joe.
The '59's were in the Gold Year display. Here is SACC member Tony Larson
with his stunning
black example.
Making
it's way to the spotlight at the
auction block is this red '62.
Ken Amrick will have all the auction
info in an upcoming edition of On Solid Ground,
a club membership benefit.
This
maybe-not-so-stock '53 was there
courtesy of J D Classic of St. Charles, IL.
Maybe
a little hard to see, but this '60 was
on the auction block and was being
televised around the world as I previously
mentioned. The video camera was on the
boom you see, and he got superb tight shots
for the viewers to gape at.
Now
back outside, I was in the right place
at the right time, as this small parade came
through the vendor area. This floppy axle
was in the lead, and....
it
was followed later on by this mid-year
championed by back in time GM exec Bunkie Knudsen,
which was followed by Dick Guldstrand piloting the SR-2.

On
Sunday, the bottom drops out if you are
a Corvetter. Out in the Survivor area you see
all kinds. Here is a solid axle, a 1930 Auburn.
Here's
a quiz for you...
What's wrong with this picture of a
C-5 for sale?
Hints at the bottom of the picture.

So that's a partial run-down of the 2009 Bloomington Gold
Corvette Show. Obviously I didn't see/photograph
everything.
